Libs Aren't Found When Compiling

When I have tried to create a makefile with ./configure, I get an error saying that SDL-image isn't found when I have it installed. I have had the same problem with expat. Is this a common issue? More importantly, is there a (preferably simple) solution to this problem? I am using zgcc-3.4.4.img with rc12.

Any help would be appreciated.

Actually, SDL-image is now found, but I get an error saying "failed to merge target specific data o file /usr/lib/libSDL_image.so". I tried deleting the symlink that was there and replacing it with an actual copy of the link. Is there any solution to this problem?
