No Booting Anymore : ( | Solved : )
« on: June 13, 2006, 11:52:37 am »
hi
I tried to install 1.1.0beta4 corgi for my sl-c700
before I made a full NAND backup with the magic keys "D" and "M" (to come to the diagnostic menue). After that I made the normal "OK" and "on" and choose the FLASH/UPDATE function. I had both zip files extracted on my CF :
pdaXrom-1.1.0beta4-Kathrin-corgi-current.zip
pdaXrom-1.1.0beta4-Kathrin-u-boot-corgi-current.zip

It made some things and than it stopped! Now, nothing works anymore. No "D" and "M" no "C" and "D" nothing! : (
When I plugg the battery or the dc I have only two flashing LED's!

What can I do??
Please write me any ideas. I need my Zaurus for a project!!

Try and unplug both power and battery for 10 second - then press and hold ok - then plugin battery and power adapter while holding ok.

oh oh ...

How about try removing AC and batt for 5 mins ... and restart with a OK-power?

Are you sure your battery is good?
I recently had the same problem .. apparently if the battery is no good, the Z won't boot even when it is plugged into AC power

Check this post ->
https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=19835&hl=

try testing it with a multi-meter if you have one. I had an extra battery from my old 5600 laying around - that's how I fixed the problem.

Hi Patsch,
Quote
but when I'm inserting the battery, the green LED is already blinking... also with open battery lock.
the battery lock is just a soft-switch, not really switching a powerline.
With the funny blinking, your Zaurus is just crying for help because
he doesn't find a valid jumptable / bootloader. Looks like also the copy
of the Diag menu in the NAND is gone.

Try this vodoo:
- Remove battery
- Pull AC
- Wait a minute
- Press and hold "FN"+"D"+"M"
- With the third hand insert the battery while still pressing the keys
- flip the battery lock
- plug AC

The Zaurus should start the rescue-copy of the Diag mode then.

Fingers crossed,

OK guys,

I have read so many posts on the issue: nobody seems to understand that after having flashed pdaXrom beta4 for the 760/860

The Diagnostic Menu is NOT AVAILABLE....
***********************************

You cannot flash using OK+Power japanese menu...
*******************************************

The only working combination appear to be D+C and D+Z. Unfortunately I have never been able to flash from SD or CF card using D+C. I guess there are some mismatches ...

Look at my post here:

https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showt...ndpost&p=130622

You have to KEEP "OK" pressed for some seconds while you insert the power.
Then, u-boot loads and looks for the "autoboot.sh".
If you modify this file you can restore the inital memory blocks thus allowing the Diagnostic Menus to be run...

BTW check out your 'Battery Voltage Adj': mine was empty!
IMHO thath's why the Zaurus doesn't reboot after suspend...battery values too low!

P.S:
'Tablet', 'COM' and 'Phase' are also empty.

The NAND Parameters are at first erased by "NAND FLASH FULL ERASE".
They are then overwritten/wiped out by the original autoboot.sh provided with beta4

1) put a copy of SYSTC860.DBK (for the 860) on the CF/SD
2) EDIT autoboot.sh in this ugly way and copy it on the CF/SD:

#!/bin/sh
PATH=/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin
...
Thanx alot but I tried this alredy... without luck : (

Jäu : ) This is realy a verrrry grrrreat vodoo
Suuper : ) I'm now in the rescue-copy of the diagnostic menue : )
but I first I had the problem that he didn't find the systc700.dbk.
so, I reformated my card (first with mkfs.vfat -F 32 ) then I read about that in this Forum and found: mkfs.msdos -F 16. So, shit. I think this was the problem that he couldn't execute the autoboot.sh!
Has somebody the full NAND backup for beta4??? Do I need it for sl-c700?? I need this, because my old sdk seems to be bad : ( I have ssh to an apache. so when somebody have the NAND I could give him/her premissionsis to it! So that everybody can use it : )

jau, I solved this problem with ereasing the nand in diffrent ways (i now you guys don't need this info but i write it anyway... for doqu : ):

service 3/3
7. extra menue <enter>
1. zaurus test <enter>
1. nand flash (full)
then back tu extra menue <cancel>
10. nand flash erase <enter>

now i can restore the nand from an old sdk backup.
but when i restart, the zaurus don't find a bootloader... there is no <ok> & <on> function : (
the "normal" <d> & <m> is now functionating. : )
in the extra menue there is in 6. normal diag mode the option to set it. when it set then the zaurus always boot directly (without <d> & <m> in diag modus : )
i tried to backup the original sharp rom (two diffrent versions)...

but again, i can't  boot a rom : (
why?? can i flash with nand-flashing somehow the rescue system??

Hi Patsch,

nice to read that you're now able to access the Diag mode
again. We suggest to flash a NAND backup with the SHARP
stock configuration. Then you'll have a known point to start
from to flash other Roms.

Try our C700 NAND backup.

Hi Marc

Thanx alot for the link. I tried it with your original NAND backup... but also: NOP!
Zaurus won't start. He is blinking... and there is no <ok> & <on> for the jap. menue : (
Perhaps I realy nead a NAND with the u-boot.
But I can't not do it! Has anybody the possibility to do it for the sl-c700?

Viele Grüsse,
Patrick ; )

jau : ) this was exactly my problem. perhaps u-boot don't need the battery for starting up, but the old boot loader need it! jups, my zaurus is now working : )

thanks to everybody who read and helped in this post!
