Pdaxii13 And Nfs
« on: January 15, 2007, 09:00:02 pm »
The only NFS package I found in the default feed was nfs-utils. I installed it, but still can't connect to an nfs share. I used the same fstab line as is working in my other boxes, but when I issue mount -a, it hangs forever. No errors, but no drive mapping either. Do I need another package or is this one not working? Thanks.

I had the exact same issue a few days ago. I ended up cancelling the first mount command with Ctrl+c, then typing it again. It came up with a message that it was already mounted, even though df claimed that it hadn't.

Hope this helps!

I tried that, no joy. After about an hour and a half, it mounted. I haven't tried it again. Something is certainly wrong as my Kubuntu boxes mount it in ms. I assume that something is missing from the nfs-tools package. I will search my logs to see if there is something obvious.

I can't find any logs. It is a bit inconvenient to have to wait 90 minutes for the nfs folder to mount. Can anyone give me a hand in diagnosing the problem? Is there another nfs package I need to install? Is so, should I unload nfs-utils first?

If you're sure that NFS is set up correctly on the server end, try repeatedly attempting to mount the file share. After a couple times it should mount, at least it did for me.

I will try it and see what I get. The line in fstab is exactly like every other linux box in my house that is working fine. I think nfs-utils is hosed. I am going to unload it and load the version of nfs I was using before.

I'm not sure if I even loaded nfs-utils. You could try without them.

I guess you don't have the same issue I did. Funny, it sounded exactly like what I went through.

Maybe somebody else can help.

Found it.

http://www.pdaxrom.org/node/30

Added the nolock option to the line in /etc/fstab and it mounted right away. I have my music (ogg) and movies (avi and ogm) on my myth box and have them shared via samba (for my two windows boxes) and nfs (for many linux boxes). A few of the m3u's go haywire. I will have to look into that. Maybe xmms doesn't know what to do with the EXTINF in the m3u's. But, everything seems to work. Should have done a little more searching. The pdaXrom site is pretty hard to navigate/search. Hopefully will migrate to the wiki.
