How Do The Bluetooth Sound Dongles Work?
« on: December 27, 2006, 02:24:34 am »
Hey All,

A quick question, I was thinking about trying the Bluetooth Headphone thing with my C3100 and 6000L but have realized that it's not the easiest thing to do at best and since neither of my devices have a built-in bluetooth implementation I'll be having to use a bluetooth usb/cf dongle/card of some kind anyway.

With this in mind I realized that it might be simpler just to buy one of the matching bluetooth headphone and dongle sets that are available where the dongle plugs directly into the sound port where a set of normal corded headphones would plug into.  Are these solutions completely self contained and work right out of the box, or do you have to have/make additional software changes to the kernel/rom in order to get them to function correctly? I don't mind the extra expense, but if I'm going to have to slog through the work of making all the changes etc. in the kernel/OS for it to work then I'll just try and use what I already have. The other nice thing if these devices work right out of the can would be that I could use it on either one of my Z's (or any other device I have) interchangeably.

Thanks in advance!

If they just plug into the headphone socket then extra software isn't needed.

I did once try on desktop the userspace bluetooth sound program - you use sox to convert an audio stream.

I used mplayer with dump-stream to stream classicFM-UK piped into sox and then streamed to my bluetooth mobile phone headset. Sound was about as good as an AM radio only without the warbles and whistles.

This might work on the Z as a pseudo sound device for kppi, depending on cpu usage.

Yes, neuroshock, this kind of BT device, such as IOGear GBMHKIT, will work. Actually I think this is a great BT stereo solution because of its simplicity to average users.

yeah the sound sucks under the linux implemntation, nokia is working on it but i think there is a parameter you can change thats undocumented as i have heard reports of CD quality from the devs

wince also had an undocumented reg setting that affected the sound quality (low quality by default) that would also inuur bigger cpu usage
