Sd Mounting Problem

Hi, i just bought a new 1Gb SD card for my c700, but when i try to write on it, it send´s an error.

I checked the permitions about the mounting devices and the mmcda1 is only read (ro).

If i remove and insert again, before i write on it, the mount command shows RW, but when i attemp to write on the sd card it is changed to RO.

Why?

The 1Gb SD card is a Sandisk.
It works perfectly with my USB card redaer.

I tested the zaurus with a panasonic 4Mb MMC card and it works perfectly.

My zaurus is a C700 with cacko.

Maybe someone can be more helpful than this, but my experience of Sandisk SD cards has never been very good in the Z. I use a Lexar card now, and have no problems with it.

lexars are good for the z.  i have had sandisk problems as well.

I recently had a similar problem.  Try this:  Turn off the Zaurus.  Take out the SD card.  Turn on the Zaurus until the SD card icon disappears.  Flip the write protect switch on the SD on and off.  Turn off the Zaurus.  Insert the SD card.  Turn on the Zaurus.

I tried that, but no luck.
The problem is that sometimes the sandisk SD card is recognized and some times not. When it is recognized , i tried to write on it, but then it is changed to Read only.

I installed PDAXrom, and the same problem, but it is very dificult to get the card mounted on this system.

I just bought a product that converts my sandisk sd card to a portatil usb storage drive, and now i am looking for a lexar Sd card for my zaurus.

Semi off-topic:

I've been using a Kingmax 1GB SD card (the pink 60x model) and it works fine under linux (I can mkdosfs + fsck.msdos just fine) but I always end up with a write error when trying to do a NAND backup on it. Mac OS and Linux don't detect any errors before I attempt the backup, but after the backup the disk has plenty of errors on it. Once I reformat it it's fine again. It's almost as if the NAND backup itself is somehow corrupting the disk (maybe by not respecting a bad sector that's supposed to be off limits?).

I want to say that my 1Gb Sandisk Sd is dead!!!!
I bought a new kingston SD memory and is working perfectly with my zaurus.

The sandisk card asked for formating, i formated, and then it converted to a 500 mb card!!! i had a similar problem with the first 1Gb sd card that i bought(sandisk too, they replaced with a new one).

Then when i tryed to read the files that i writed to the SD card it says that the files are corrupted.

So i tried to send it to warranty, buy i openend the SD card by mistake,

So i founded that it has a Controller and a Samsung NAND memory chip, but what i founded is that the NAND memory is a 512 Mb memory!!!!!!

Sandisk is trying to save money???

How they can fit a file that is bigger than 500 mb? (Compresion algorithm by the controller???)

What if i send a compresed file bigger than 800 mb??? can be compresed more than this in order to fit in the 512 MB nand chip??

I will try to upload pictures of the circuit of the Sandisk SD card.

I'm having this sort of problem with a Sandisk card also. Guy at work is trying to sell me a 256MG Sandisk SD; he's formatted it on his Mac, on a Windows PC at the hospital, and in a digital camera, but every time I try it in my 5500 I can see the files ... but I can't either read them or erase them. It'd be a passable deal for $C30, but I'm afraid I'm going to have to pass it up.

I got a new 256 MB kingston SD card for about $25 dollars.
When i inserted the kingston sd card into my zaurus c700 it worked perfectly. No problems at all. I can read, write, use as swapfile....

Some people recomend Lexar and Kingmax, but at Mexico they are very hard to find, so i tried with a Kingston and no problem.

I will upload the pictures of the internat parts of a Sandisk SD card, but i can´t find my camera

I want to inform, that i contacted Sandisk support, and they ask em for pictures of the card, they told me that my Sandisk SD card is a counterfeit item.

here is the reply from Sandisk:

Actually it's easy to "counterfeit" those Sandisk cards. All of them look exactly the same on the outside: a small blue slate of plastic with golden contacts. The only way to tell them apart is the label... so people with questionable ethics can swap the labels with old cards that no one wants (16M, 32M) or even make new fake labels.

Anyway, later models have the size etched on the plastic instead of a label, and sometimes they have it etched on the back of the card too. That helps.

I've been thinking about buying a 4GB card for my Z and after looking at the various seller's feedback ratings on ebay it seems there are a LOT of fake flash cards.

Take a 256MB card, relabel it and repack it, and copy on the partition table from a 1G or larger card, and format the card as empty.

The result is that it seems to work and reports 4GB, but soon runs into trouble and gets corrupted.

It appears that Sandisk are the worst hit for fake products.
