Opinion: R121 Vs. Beta 3 Vs. Coming Release
« on: February 06, 2007, 09:36:54 am »
Hi all,

I've been off the radar for a while and have seen some hinting about the upcoming pdaxrom release.

Being a tweak-happy beta3 user I'm wondering if it's worth attempting (another) upgrade to r121 or waiting for a new release.

Any idea of how soon this might be, and how stable it's likely to be would be handy - if it's going to be a bleeding-edge-with-problems release I think I'd give it a miss.

cheers all for keep pdaxrom alive

I'm assuming that you have a Cxx00 since your running Beta 3. I'd do a NAND backup and try r121, as it runs MUCH faster than Beta 3 on Cxx00s and is quite usable with a few tweaks. I also haven't had any stability issues.

My impression of the new release is that it's going to be a more stable r121.
SL-C750- pdaXrom beta 1 (mostly unused)
Current distro: Gentoo

I believe that r121 uses the 2.6 kernel.  Have you noticed any issues with getting apps to run in r121?  I think that would be one of my biggest concerns.

None at all. Everything I've tried has run just fine.

Good to hear.  Considering the supposed performance boost, I'm really tempted to take a look at it.

When I tried r121, I wasn't able to use Planex GW-CF11X card. Anything changed since the last few months? Is it possible now?

Same issue here but I recall seeing a thread where someone had this working on r121. Will have to investigate before doing the upgrade.
