New Linux Small Umpc From Intel

It seems that Intel is developing the second wave of UMPC, and splitting those in two product lines:

- ultra small 5'', <1000USD, linux powered
- small 7'', ~1200USD, vista powered

My question to Intel would be: "How is that not a Nokia InternetTablet?" ...

But heck, if Intel's muscle is enough to move OEMs to make more linux UMPC ... and even some with keyboards ... I say "bring it on!"

Does anyone know anything about the OS (Midinux)?  It says that it is based on the Chinese, Red Flag Linux----never heard of it.  However, the UI looks very slick and modern and as the article points out, very iPhone like.

The OS will run on the new Intel processors designed for the 'MID' platform and will also run on some existing platforms (following link shows running on an ASUS UMPC).

Will in run on a Zaurus?  I'd love to give it a go and they seem to have a number of applications prepared from the start:

I think that it should not be any problem to put the whole Mac OS X in the machine as Apple is capable of incorporating a minimum Mac OS X into iPhone.

Not any *technical* problem... Unless Apple adds some hardware platform checks.

Maybe, Apple will have one of the ODMs make a modified UMMac next year on this platform.

This one definitely looks the most Z-ish. Anyone have any more info on this?

One site reports that, "...UMPCs and MIDs will come from Asus, Aigo, Asus, Fujitsu, Haier, HTC and Samsung".  Looks like Sharp has not decided to officially get in the game.  However, the EM-ONE (S01SH) from Sharp is only a half step away from being a MID.  I don't think they would have to change much, upgrade the processor to the new Intel MID processor.  The rest of the specs fall right in line with what they are classifying as a MID:

Just want to remind people that the first version of the US copyright law only gave copyright protection to works authored by US citizens. That means works by non-US authors were pirated left right and centre. It was only 100 years later that the law was amended to give protection to non-US works.

OT: About Ubuntu 7.04 Fiesty ... (I like to call it Fiesta ... haha)

Everything works great ... except that a simple thing like detecting my logitech mouse's tilt-wheel button is something that evades everyone on the ubuntu forum.

Otherwise, it's pretty swell. I like it.
