hi folks!!!

I\'m seriously thinking about getting a gun to shoot down this blody pingouin that is playing with my nerves...

A month ago, i bought a zaurus sl c750 flashed with a cacko sash rom. I\'m very happy to have it and i take notes miles of notes with this wonderfull keaboard durins my lessons (i\'m a french student).

As some sowtwares wouldn\'t work, i reflashed it last sunday with the latest sash rom without any pb.

Here is my pb: i can sync with my xp via usb and use the mass storage option, but there is no way to connect to my mandrake. I\'ve read many how-to (included those avaliable on zug) but they all deal with the 5x00 models and/or previous mandrake versions. Mine is a 9.2 updated to the very last avaliable version witj Mandrake-updates and i use a 2.4.22-28 kernel.

The usb tcp/ip connection doesn\'t work (ifconfig usb0 up --] \"no such device) and the mass storage option does an even more strange thing. When i use the diskdrake tool, it says i\'ve got 8 new unformated drives (sda, sdb,..., sdh)!!!! I even don\'t understad the sd thing as i use my only cf card as storage device, or why it is saied unformated (no pb under xp).

One last thing, i only have a three month long experience of linux (that is to say that i\'m a pathetic newbie) so i\'m not sure i should move to another distro yet and i would really need a step by step help. I already tried to blacklist CDEther (something like that...) and every needed modules seem to be loaded (usb uhci, usb storage...).

Please help me!! It\'s very \"la chiasse\" (i think the english classical word is \"boring\"  ) to reboot windoze every time i want to access my zaurus.

Thaks in advance

On my Mandrake 9.2 box the mass strorage device is /dev/sda (ie no numbers on the end), have a go with that:

# mount /dev/sda /mnt/usb-storage (for example)

For some background on usb-storage (and attempts to get it working) http://www.zaurususergroup.com/index.php?n...iewtopic&t=1485

If you\'re still having troubles then check that the module has been loaded (on both the Z and the Mandrake machine):
# lsmod

Check the messages on Mdk with:
# dmesg
(just after you plug it in)

usbview (on Mdk) might also provide some useful info about what it thinks the device is.

thanks lardman but it still doesn\'t work

I give some more informations:

- usb view recognize it as a c760 model instead of a c750.
- dmseg says that ne \"active driver is claimed\".

I\'ve got an idea but i don\'t dare: should i earase any of the usb-storage.conf in the zaurus???

If you get that message it sounds like it\'s trying to do ethernet-over usb rather than usb-storage.

What does lsmod on the Z show is loaded (net_fd is bad, storage_fd is good), how\'s about usbview on the Mandrake box?

Take a look at this thread too: http://www.zaurususergroup.com/index.php?n...er=asc&start=15

See whether usb-storage has been loaded on the Mandrake box (lsmod again as root), if not you may need to modprobe (however it works fine on my machine...).

I\'ll see if I can find out anything more when I\'m at work tomorrow (with a Linux box in front of me).

ok, lardman, thanks for your help!!

usb-storage is loaded on my mdk and storage_fd is there on my Z. But the point is that it is recognized as an unformated device. Hum?!? No it\'s worse: 8 empty 62Mo drives. I only have a 64Mo Cf fat 32 formated... That is more than strange. I think i should call Mulder and Scully... or maybe the Jerry Springer Show  !

What does \'cat /proc/usb-storage\' show on the Z?

Si

P.S. Have you taken a look at the partition table with fdisk (of the Cf card on the Z) to make sure that it\'s okay?

Sorry for being long to answer (i wasn\'t home) and thanks again to you, lardman.

Here is what cat /proc/usb-storage displays:

Protocol status:STORAGE_IDLE
USB status:USB_DISCONNECT
Media status:MEDIA_INSERT
Media chage:MEDIA_CHANGE_ON
Device name:/dev/hda1
Device file descriptor:0x00000000
Device size:0x0
Device block size:0x512
Device write protect:WR_PROTECT_OFF
Bulk in max size:0
Bulk out max size:0
device write error:0
device read error:0
device flush error:0
write data bulk out timout:0
device write max time:0 msec
Schedule task max num:0x512
Schedule task use num:0x0
Schedule task max use num:0x2

I hope it will help, and i must admitt i don\'t understand anything of this...

Maybe it is important: my Z is currently not plugged. I\'m working (well, i should be working...) and i only have some windows boxes, so...

I\'ll be home tonight. I\'ll retry there.

Bye.
