vnc client in sl5600
« on: March 29, 2004, 10:17:31 am »
I\'m a newbie and need some help installing vnc client on zaurus.
I have the original rom supplied by sharp. The vnc server runs fine on my zaurus and I could see my Zaurus on my xp desktop. However, when I run keypebble on my zaurus, it says \"hostname wrong\". The keypebble I installed was opie-keypebble-sharprom 1.0.0 sharprom.ip

I would appreciate any help

Thank you

What are you putting as the hostname?
C750 OZ3.5.4 (GPE, 2.6.x kernel)
SL5500 OZ3.5.4 (Opie)
Nokia 770
Serial GPS, WCF-12, Socket Ethernet & BT, Ratoc USB
WinXP, Mandriva

I\'ve tried the ipadress as well as the hostname of the xp. xp\'s ip address is 192.168.0.1 and zaurus is 192.168.0.175

And presumably you have a VNC server running on the XP machine?

Assuming this is the case, do you have a non-standard port setting for the server? Do you have a firewall up on the PC?

I\'m unaware of setting up the port. And there are no firewalls on the xp pc. As a matter of fact, I\'ve another linux pc (debian) which is connected to xp via crossovercable. And when i run vnc client from debian, I can see the xp machine.

Thanks for the help

I presume you\'re running on a 5500 considering that you got the VNCserver to run without troubles. Which ROM?

Can you ping? (ie. do you have network comms between your Z and PC?)

Oh yes, I can ping and everything works well in this network. I have a ambicom wireless card connected to zaurus and i can connect to the xp machine. I even loaded shared drive from xp to 5600 using smbmount.

Fair enough, I don\'t know then.

The obvious one is that the vnc viewer isn\'t working, but I\'ve not tried the latest version (because it won\'t/wouldn\'t let me have a local server) so I can\'t say for sure that this is or isn\'t the case.

Sorry,

I use an old version - probably the one from the OZ3.2 feed. You\'ll have to install/package this yourself manually though.

Well, other than a bug fix related to opie\'s virtual keyboard, keypebble hasnt changed in over a year.

It may be even older then, but I thought OZ 3.2 was more than a year old now?

If it\'s not then I\'m using one of the ones from a pre 3.2 snapshot (it has a name with a date in it), certainly before it was possible to set the view scaling anyway.

Anyway, I sort of stopped needing to use it so didn\'t bother to try fixing the problem and submitting a patch etc.

Hehe. Same here.   There is plenty of stuff to do if anyone actually cares about a vnc client. ( Server side scaling, better encodings, support for the new tightvnc file transfer protocol)

For some reason I missed the bookmark column and this was why the vnc viewer was not working. How stupid I was?

Thanks for all your help anyway!
