Sl-6000 screen vs Ipaq

Greetings,

I have been contemplating to get a Sl-6000 for a while since my 5500 is getting a bit old. One of thing about 6000 everyone is raving about is the screen. I am curious how much better is it compared to an Ipaq (which arguably has the best screen in the market) and Toshiba e805 (4\" screen)?

One thing I noiticed about the screens on 5500 and my Sharp laptop is that it lacks the \"warmth\" of a very good LCD.In the case of 5500, it\'s too dark w/o backlite and in the case of laptop it can be turned very bright but the images got washed out. When I look at the LCD on a Sony laptop, the image has very good color saturation even the backlite is turned to max. I hope this is not true with their CG silicon tecnology.

Since I am not a Linux guru, one of the major justification is the brilliant screen that will make using the machine a pleasure(The expansion sleeve was also a big thing but at close to $200 a pop is a bit excessive for me). But if the existing Ipaq or Toshiba e805 can match the screen of the SL-6000, I think I can wait a bit longer to see what to get.

I haven\'t seen the SL-6000 screen myself (nor a Cxxx screen  ), but you can be certain it is a LOT brighter than the 5500 screen. The 5x00 screen is only reflective (front lit), so while it is very readable in direct sun light, it isn\'t as bright as a new iPAQ indoors because they are transflective (both front and back lit).

The Toshiba e805 uses Sharp\'s high-res LCD screen, so it is probably identical to the SL-6000 which is definitely transflective.

Of course the SL-6000 beats all the iPAQs hands down on resolution and can run most apps in 640x480 resolution without any hacks, unlike the Toshiba e805. I really wish I had a 640x480 PDA for viewing PDFs and browsing the web.

Yes, the SL-6000 screen is REALLY nice. I have an iPAQ 5450 and the SL-6000\'s screen blows the 5450\'s away.

I have a C750 - before had a 5000D, and definitely the C750 screen is much brighter and sharper than the 5xxx screen.
I have seen the 6000 too, and that screen is even better than my c750 - its bright and crisp and plus is you can read the screen in bright daylight too.

And of course as for resolution, the 7xxx and 6000 screens beats the ipaq\'s out of the water. I havent even booted up my 5000D for quite some time as I just cant look at that older resolution anymore.
As for the Toshiba e805, it must be the same since they use the screen from Sharp. The downlside of course is that not all apps run in VGA mode on the Toshiba without the hack. The 6000 on the otherhjad works standard VGA for nearly all apps - its actually not the VGA limitation, but the design of older apps meant for the 5xxx series and secondly, it has on-the-fly rotation.

I seems to remember Toshiba announced they will have an upgrade for e805 pretty soon to update it to the latest PPC edition. One of the benefit is that it will support 640x480 full time. Interestingly, the only main difference between e805 and Sl-6000 are the OS and the keyboard.
