Charging protocol?
« on: August 20, 2018, 05:09:02 pm »
For the first time in more than a decade, there's no Blackberry device turned on here. Am trying to switch entirely to the Gemini running Sailfish OS. Seems pretty good so far.

For years, I've plugged the Blackberry in to its charger -- well, a charging hub -- on my bedside table and unplugged it to take it with me in the morning. Three years of this with my Q10 and everything was fine.

I plan to do the same thing with the Gemini. No quick-charge or anything, but also not shutting it down. The socket I've chosen is 3.5 volts @ 2.1 amps.  I do not intend to shut it down, as I didn't shut down my Blackberry, which went months without a reboot.

But I'm concerned that unlike that of the Blackberry, the Gemini's battery might have a shortened life doing this. Anyone know? It's the functional equivalent of having it plugged in while turned on and working.
dep

Atari Portfolio (yes, it still works and yes, I bought it new)
Libretto 110 CT (with docking station and all kinds of PCMCIA stuff)
And, now, a Gemini and, fortunately, a GPD Pocket

The charge control circuitry in modern smartphones is very clever, provided you use a quality mains to usb adaptor, the right cable, and the Gemini has enough cooling, you should be just fine to leave it plugged in all the time.

I prefer to slow charge my phones overnight, the lower heat helps battery longevity.
