Wireless LAN CF Card Questions
« on: August 16, 2004, 05:57:38 am »
Hi Guys,

On a whim, I just bought an Origo Wireless CF Card from shirtpocket.co.uk and it arrived this morning. Unfortunately we don't have wireless at work, so I'll have to wait until I get home to play with it.

I've a Zaurus 5500 and I was wondering how fast a wireless card like this will drain it?

I was wondering if there are any good apps out there to help control the wireless card?

I was also wondering if there were any recommendations, hints, tips that anyone could give me for using my Zaurus with wireless networking?

I was hoping someone could recommend "must have" apps. OK, I know I bought it on a whim, but if someone can recommend apps that will make having a wireless Z a pretty cool thing, that would be awesome.

I know this is all pretty general, but there was no planning behind this, I just thought, hmmm, lets by a wireless card for my Zaurus.

I ust got one of those cards, (ebuyer?) :-)

so far ive got best results from using the orinoco_cs driver and not hostap, (less hastle with encryption)

ive submitted a zug review of it but that will probably never see the light of day.

read up on the /etc/pcmcia/wireless.opts file , you can create your own card scheme for each network you use. then u can do stuff like 'cardctl scheme work' or 'cardctl scheme home' etc.

get to grips with iwconfig aswell, :-)

oh, the orinoco_cs driver makes the card eth0, not wlan0.

Gosh that sounds very scary!

I'll have to get it home, see if I can get it working and then see what I can see.

Even if I can just get it to work and use it for Gaim around the flat when I can't be bothered to use the laptop, that'll be cool :-)

I bought mine from www.shirtpocket.co.uk where I also bought a very cool retractable usb charging, syncing cable.
