5500 for sale
« on: August 15, 2004, 03:20:56 pm »
Here's the thing. I've got an SL-5500 with two docking stations and an AC adapter for sale. All I want is the amount that Sharp is charging me to fix it out of warranty, which is $110.50 USD (plus shipping if you don't live in the SF area).
It's in fair condition, good looking screen, good keyboard, everything works just fine.
Why it was sent to Sharp:
My flash memory got screwed after someone forced a bad CF card into the slot and grounded a data pin.  That was in April, and I finally got around to sending it in to Sharp.
I am in the San Francisco Bay area, and I know there might be someone interested in an extra Z. I'll accept cash or cheque.

I just received confirmation from Sharp. It turns out that it's a problem with the power switch., not the flash rom. Ah well. I once upgraded a Pentium 3 to a P4 because of a reset button...    Anyhow, offer still stands.

Hey all! Thanks for your interest. I got it back from Sharp last week and have been using it as a web server for some php development. It's going to continue kicking ass until I get money back from taxes  to put down for the 6000.

So I won't be thinking of selling it again for another couple of months most likely. I just discovered all of the Python packages on OZ, so...

If you start thinking about selling it again around Christmas time, pm or email me.  I might have an extra hundred bucks.  I want a second one to experiment with.  I can't risk all the data on my work Z.

Is the repair place local in SF, or do they turn around and send it out somewhere else?

I ask, because I have a 5500 that I'd like to get repaired (been using a 5600 for the last couple of years) so I can test out some of the other ROMS - and I'm local to the SF bay area.
