Just ordered C860 from pricejapan
« on: October 06, 2004, 10:17:56 am »
Hi everyone. I've just ordered a C860 from pricejapan.com for $552 all-inclusive. (paypal CC, EMS shipping to NY, NY). I also ordered a 1GB 60x Kingmax SD card from ZipZoomFly.

I am also the proud owner of a 5500, which I used for several years and which still works.

Besides daydreaming of my new C860, does anyone have any suggestions for things I should do in the meantime while my unit is shipping? Any vital accessories, software, etc. that I should be looking into?

A non-leather case would be great, and I've seen some nice stylus replacements (http://www.pdair.com/picture.php?pdcode=149), nice cases (http://www.pdair.com/picture.php?pdcode=147), and a cool USB sync/charge cable out there.

I'm mostly looking forward to FreenoteQT, but pdaXrom seems to have some nice software and I know FreenoteQT won't run on pdaXrom because of QT incompatibilities. I'm also looking forward to running some kind of x86/dos emulation (probably freedos on pdaXrom or Xqt)... anyway, I have no idea what I'm talking about so take this with a grain of salt.

Can't wait to start using and (time permitting), developing some software.

UPDATE:

I've ordered 4 accessories from brando:

1. Brando ultra clear screen protectors
2. PDair 3-in-1 stylii
3. iPDA sync cable - hoping to use mass storage feature "PC Sync"
4. PDair C760 case (I presume it will fit the larger battery on C860)

I tried to order these items from ShirtPocket but had problems completing the order through moneybrokers.com with my credit card (kept prompting me for a birthday even though i followed instructions. tryed in IE and Firefox on windows).

I'm still up in the air about a bluetooth card, because I don't have a BT phone - i've seen the ambicom for around $50. Already have a large SD card, and a WCF-11 wifi card laying around somewhere.

C860 should arrive by Monday (I hope). Anyone have any warnings/reccomendations to share for an about-to-be C860 owner? Is BT worthwhile, or has someone in the US gotten connectivity over IR to work?

Hi,

I also got my C860 from PriceJapan some weeks ago. Although I am no linux expert everything worked out fine. I bought a Netgear CF Wireless card and it worked easily (just plug it in). Setting up Outlook syncing was a bit more difficult, but it now works.

What I do miss:

* IR sync
* printing to network printers

I ordered a BlueMonkey CF Bluetooth card and I am looking forward to get it. I am hoping that I will not be too disappointed, because in overal bluetooth on Zaurus seems to be a mess. It would be really really great to get all profiles I am used to on my desktop (headset profile). Btw. does anybody know what bluetooth stack will be used in the 6000 bluetooth version? Maybe this will be fully featured and can be used on our C860 as well?

So relax, you will be getting a cool toy. If you want to buy a case, just go into your local camera shop and buy a camera bag. There are some cheap ones out there which will fit perfectly well.
