Opera Strangeness

Hi

I'm new to the Z scene, I have a Zaurus SL-5500 with the 3.13 Sharp ROM and I've run into a strange problem with Opera.

After installing and removing a few ipkg's I've found that my icon for Opera no longer launches the program, the icon changes and the hour glass appears for a while but nothing happens.  If I run Opera from the console it works fine.

I've tried upgrading to Opera 7.30 but I still have the same problem.

I've tried googling around for an answer without success so I thought I'd ask here if anybody can shed some light on my problem.

Cheers

Colin

I have the same exact setup that you have, and mine works perfectly.
I installed Opera 7.30 and it works great for me.

I think you might have to do a reset to get back to the original setup and then reinstall your programs again (oh no!!!)

Be sure to make frequent backups so you can get back in case something messes up.

To get Opera back without having to reset your Zaurus, run the following commands as root in the terminal:

cd /
tar xvf /root/.home_default.tar *opera*
# Search the Zaurus Howtos ## Search the Zaurus FAQs ## Find Z software at ELSI #

Hi

Thanks for your replies.

dougeeebear - don't really want to start all over again if I can help it.

tumnus - I tried as you suggested but I still have the same problem, using the icon gives me an hourglass for a couple of seconds but no opera, type opera into konsole and I get opera - very wierd !?!?!

Cheers

Colin

Update:  After looking around on the forums I discovered the existance of the opera.desktop file, I edited this to allow me to run opera with root permissions and my icon now works agian.

I can run opera from konsole under the user zaurus but I need root permissions to run it from the icon !?!?!? again I say, very wierd.

Opera 7.3 won't work on oz3.3.5...at least not on my PDA....I tried like 10X flash and reflashing and reinstalling the Opera..

Opera 6 works fine.....indeed.

There are Opera 7.55 lying around in the internet and some ppl already tried it. Maybe you can have a try. But I wonder where is the link I can download it.

Opera have no problems dealing w/ Sharp's and Cracko or Sharp-base Rom..

Konqueror is the best among all
It have tab browsing even in the smal PDA....

BUT.....one thing....
All of them can't show Chinese character, BIG5 character..only UTF8...
