Mkfs.ext2 Don´t Finds My Sd/cf

Hi!

I now got a (for X11-User) simplier problem i guess.

I want to format my SD and CF with ext2, but i can´t
find the right command.

"mkfs.ext2 /dev/mmcda1" for SD is wrong i guess.
The command for CF i didn´t know either.

Help me

I suggest you search a bit more in the unofficial faq, the howtos and the forums,
I'm pretty sure you'll find  your answers


You need to use fdisk first to delete the fat partition and recreate partition for ext2
and then use mkfs  (ie make filesystem ie format).

the device for cf is /dev/hda1 (but it might be /dev/hda2 if you have different partition).

okay, so i've been having sd card issues as well, so i decided to follow your instructions from the faq.

on my z, in /dev i don't have a /mmcda

there is, however, mmcd/disc0/disc

the applet that shows what you have in your slots is empty.  i think i have a problem here.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

I get the feeling you ran a Qtopia ROM before pdaXrom?

Anyway, in pdaXrom the dev path for your SD card is /dev/mmcd/disc0/part1 (/mnt/card), I'm not sure why but that's just the way it is.   CF remains /dev/hda1 (/mnt/cf)[I think.]

Yepp you´re right

i never tried a X11-Rom before, pdaXrom is my first;
ran so far: SHARP-Rom, tkcrom, Cackorom, OZ+OPIE.

I think /dev/mmcda is a lot more easier than /dev/mmcd/disc0/part1

this is what i did to make an ext3 sd card

umount /mnt/card
mkfs.ext3 /dev/mmcd/disc0/part1
 

i could never load ipks from bash but i use the package manager and select  sd card as the place to install i could never get it to load from cf card so always installed from internet

if you reboot the icon will be gone then type this ( thanks to pgas for this)

ln -s /mnt/card/usr/share/applications/* /usr/share/applications
ln -s /mnt/card/usr/share/pixmaps/* /usr/share/pixmaps

hit the purple x in lower left corner and exit
then startx
