6gb Microdrives And The Sl-c3100
« on: February 24, 2005, 10:08:09 am »
the existence of the drives documented here:
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/02/24/se...hi_6gb_1in_hdd/

the new iPod mini will have a 6GB drive in it:
http://www.infosyncworld.com/news/n/5815.html

given that the Zaurus C3000 can use the same microdrive, could it be that the much rumoured SL-C3100 is the same as the 3000 only with a 6GB drive and not a 4?

Nah, no way.
Then it would be called SL-C3060.
Because "3060" sounds stupid, it will be the
SL-C3100 with the 10GB version that is
already announced by Hitachi  .

PS: NO, i don't have informations about this.
I'm just kidding (and my personal bet is that
there will be a 10GB version).

As much as I'd like a 3000 with a faster processor and more memory, I'd probably have to agree with Marc. As brilliant as Sharp's engineers are they're also lazy  The new HD probably won't need anything more than a couple of ROM tweaks to use the 10gb HD so that is probably all we'll get.

OTOH, it may be easy to upgrade the existing HD's in the 3000 to 10gb.

Maybe the 3100 will have the 6gb, and the 3200 will have the 10gb. I can't imagine the 10gb CF hard drives coming cheaply.

well just to whet our fantasies
I am betting on a SL-W3100.

Of course you get what the W stands for - built-in WIRELESS.
But then there has be a C somewhere (for the clamshell). Now how do we rename this new beast ?

more news on Hitachi's new microdrive:
http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,119152,00.asp
"the new drives, due in the second half of this year, will be able to hold between 8GB and 10GB"

http://www.elitestv.com/pub/2005/Jan/EEN41dc130ed6972.html

If the 3100 is 10GB, why isn't the 3000 called the 3040?

Yeah, we'd all like a SL-C3000L or SL-C3000W!

It's a pity noones managed to rip up a 6000 and a 3000 and build the display from the 6000 into the 3000 and somehow add the wlan as well.
