cell phone modem
« on: January 17, 2004, 10:56:42 am »
Hi,

Does anyone have any advice on using the Z (5600) with a cellular phone? I\'m trying to use the AerLink with an LG VX3100 phone on Verizon Wireless. Here\'s my post on their message board:

Any help (init strings to try, etc.) would be most appreciated.
Thanks,

I don\'t know what you have done to this point but what I did:

Setup a profile in network settings, no username, no password, with 1xRTT network and phone no #777, init string of ATZ, speed of 115200 with defaults for everything else.

After connecting phone to zaurus, use the appropriate profile from the network connection icon and then connect. Just blow past the username and password prompts.

I\'m not sure but I don\'t think you really need the ipk unless you have the hi-speed service. hth.

Wow, that worked. At least I know the cable is connecting the phone to the Z.
I still don\'t seem to have \'net access, however. Is there anything else I need to do?
Thanks for your help.

When you get the connected message, click the \"i\" for connection information. You should see your ip info. Opera should work (albeit slow at 14.4k).

The \"i\" is in the top right corner of the connected dialog box. In lieu of this, open terminal and enter \"ifconfig\" after you are connected.
