Dual boot with another ROM?

Although the pivot_root scripts seem to work - if you want to do it the right way, you need to enhance the Zaurus bootloader to support booting ROMs from CF or via Network.

IYO, is there a chance of this ever happening?

Clofland: what can other roms do that pdaX can't?  I tried Cacko for about a week before switching, and I really don't see why anyone would want to stick with the Sharp rom when theres such a wealth more that can be done on pda X.  Just wondering what you see in Cacko that I may be missing.

Not directed at me, but maybe I can help.  pdaXrom is awesome, but for daily use at work nothing beats the simplicity and one-handed ease of Qtopia.  At work, I'm usually moving through the building.  I use very few applications (mostly network apps).  I commonly access documents via the Files tab, by descending rapidly through directories to the appropriate document, selecting it to open it in the associated app to view or edit without ever having used my stylus.  This is what pays for my Zaurus.

Some weekends I flash pdaXrom for fun.  If I was using my Z solely for fun, I'd be nothing but X.  Until X and Qtopia play nicely together, I'll be forced to use nothing but Qtopia with any regularity.

Ideally for me, pdaXrom would be the base ROM and Qtopia would be an environment operating within X.

A few possibilities IMHO :

No HWR (handwriting) - not that cacko or sharp are particulary good here but hwr is usable. The On screen Keyboard is too small so portrait mode is virtully impossible to use for input.

Small icons and no screen magnification for people with small eyes or poor eyesight.

Some things do not work out of the box and require customising, requiring more in depth knowledge of  linux/unix e.g. bluetooth setup.

No alarm daemon for kdepim or equivalent.

Dillo Browser not as full featured as opera/netfront (? not sure about this!)

Good X full featured programs run slowly (but ok if you are patient)
---

*On balance I prefer pdaxrom to sharp but understand why others are reluctant to try. I am new to linux and have had to learn by experimenting and getting help from these excellent forums. However, Dual boot DOES seem a good idea, if the zaurus was powerful enough.

for me, the reason i stayed on cacko so long was pim synch to outlook.  i have since switched to the kdepim, which can now import from outlook.  synch is coming, according to the developer.  so for the time being, i just make notes of anything i would add, and add them to outlook then import.  not the most efficent, but it's good enough to justify being off the qtopia.
