A Word Of Warning About Install Special Kernel
« on: March 29, 2005, 11:17:18 am »
Hi,

Just to let you know, as part of developent for a ROM for the SL-C3000 I have been looking at the installer.sh scripts for the SL-C3000.

The version that ships with the Sharp 1.11 ROM update trims 16 bytes off the end of the file before flashing starts and if the zImage that you are using doesn't have this extra padding then you will be in trouble.

I have observed problems that will brick your SL-C3000 when using the standard installer.sh and tetsu's Special Kernel and recommend that you download and use the installer quoted on his page. I'm working through the issue to produce an installer that will install this kernel with the custom ROM image at the moment.

If you DO brick your Zaurus or HAVE bricked your Zaurus using this combination then there are two ways out.

1. Reflash using the Sharp 1.11 installer. If you just want to flash the Kernel then you only need installer.sh and zImage.bin on the card - Installer will not complain if the other files are missing.

2. Download the appropriate installer.sh quoted on the tetsu site and give it another crack.
