Newbie File Space Questions
« on: April 27, 2005, 06:33:20 am »
Hi All,

df on my 750 (rc5) says the following:

/dev/mtdblock2     45M size,    45M used     Mounted on /
none                    12M size,      0M used     Mounted on /dev/shm
/dev/mtdblock3     12M size,      7M free     Mounted on /home

(and stuff about my cards)

I was keeping a fairly close eye on how much space I had, and had even uninstalled some programmes from / and put them on my sd card instead, but suddenly I'm out of space.

As a complete linux n00b, I'm flummoxed as to what could be using up this space- obviously I know I haven't been saving files in there, so what could be using up the space all of a sudden? How can I refine things?

If I move up to rc9 are these space issues going to get even worse?

Thanks

Jo

hi totaln00b

on the c750, i would suggest using Ashley's script to have a single root partiotion and no /home partition in order to prevent that kind of troubles. (search the forum, you'll find how to do it. I posted something about this some time ago... ).

Otherwise, check your /tmp directory, or maybe you tried to install an ipk and you ran out of sapce during the downloading, so the doxnloading process failed and left the partial ipk somewhere on your internal memory. Coul someone pricise where temp ipks are stored please ? i don't remember...

Cheers

I don't think /tmp is on the flash

Even if you install ipk on th sd card, it takes some space on / (not much but a little)

check /var/log also
