Storage Vs Memory
« on: May 14, 2005, 04:32:17 pm »
Feeling a bit thick here. Sorry for all these questions!

On my C1000 is has a storage tab saying:

Internal Flash total, 64,512kb
Used: 12,080 kb
Available: 52,432 kb

I've not yet installed anything on it and haven't put anything more than the odd text file on it yet, so am guessing part of that used space is apps?

But then there's another tab saying memory and this says:

Total memory 62,100 kb
Used: 45,812 kb
Free: 16,288 kb

So am confused now as to the distinction between the two, where apps get installed and so forth.

Well the bottom figures are memory or usage of the 64 mb of ram.  This will go up and down as per what programs are running.

The first part is you user space. out of the 128mb of flash space, it looks like 64mb are available to you.  I guess the other 64mb goes to the dictionary thing.  Was this Z preconfigured english by shirtpocket?  Maybe they also installed some apps as well.

Yeap, this was preconfigured by Shirt Pocket.

Is 64mb of user space bad? Should it be higher than that?

well, I believe it is normal if you still have the dictionary.  My 760 had similar user space until the cacko rom took out the dictionary and brought it closer to 96MB of space.

When the Cacko ROM gets out, I do recommend it. It eliminates most of the remaining Japanese messiness left over after translation, has better add-on hard ware support, and just plain looks and works better than the Sharp ROM.

Sorry Kahm,

I haven't been following the cacko3k threads, but how much user space do you figure a 1000 will have with that rom?

Well, the 860 has something like 75mb free space on the regular one, and lite had over 100mb.

Cacko3k isn't space optimized - for obvious reasons. Things will definitely get a bit of a work around for the 1k.
