Ide-cs Module. Avaiable?
« on: September 02, 2005, 02:56:52 pm »
I guess I may be in denial, but I just cannot believe that this microdrive will not work in my Z!  Can anyone provide the ide-cs module?  I'm looking at IpkgFind, but I don't think those ipks are compatible with pdaXrom.  Am I right?

I'm not so sure it's using ide-cs.  I've been talking directly to Hitachi engineers, and they insist that a microdrive with IDE-only capabilities should work with Linux.  The only ones that seem to be working right now in the Z are those that look like memory instead.

I have both a 2GB and 4GB Hitachi microdrive and both work fine in the zaurus. Both are detected as ATA disk drives and use ide_cs which appears to be in the kernel I'm using (stock sharp).

Can you tell me what the last three characters of the barcode are on your 4Gb drive?

Mine is 47C.

Check the other thread. Basically, try the drive in other devices. Not being able to spin means big problems. Call and get an RMA. They'll ship you one back.
I got my first one from Fry's and the replacement direct from Singapore (still had the new drive smell). It works great now.

I agree with that.  I tried it in CF-USB adapters, Multi-Card Adapters, CF-PCMCIA, Direct in Laptop.  Nothing worked.  It must be a bad drive.  I requested the RMA last Thursday.  Still waiting...

Funny you should mention Fry's (it should be a four letter word)(oh wait, it is!)
I went by Fry's and they had the 4GB Hitachi for a great price.  Not surprisingly, they had none in stock.  Went to another Fry's and the price suddenly went up $75 and the only one they had was already open.  NO THANKS!
