C1000 Deal On Ebay
« on: April 24, 2006, 08:50:48 pm »
Anyone know anything about the seller, toolsorjewels?  Seems to have ok ebay feedback.  However, she/he won't respond to my questions about the item.

Here is the link:

I'm also considering pricejapan, but it is kind of a hassle...

I'd love to spend $300 shipped, particularly because I anticipate spending another $100 on necessities, like wi-fi card, usb cable kit, case.

I'm just nervous about getting a used Z that doesn't retain a charge or has been bricked.

Another question:

The worst of it all is that Dell is selling cheap notebooks for $400.  I want to use the Z as a very portable computer.  Is it possible to get used to touch typing on the device such that you type on it just about as fast and accurately as you'd type on a standard-sized keyboard?

Opinions greatly appreciated!

If they won't respond to a prospective customer, how responsive do you think they'll be after they have your money?

No. I do pretty much touch type on the Z, but it's several orders of magnitude slower than typing on a real keyboard. Of course, you can get a real keyboard (USB or bluetooth) to use with the Z if you so desire.

Right, but by the time you lug a usb keyboard around, you might as well have brought your laptop.  Right?

Yes and no. A good bluetooth keyboard or folding USB keyboard is actually quite compact, and the nice thing about it is that you can use the Zaurus without it most of the time and then just use the external keyboard when you need to do extended text entry. It gives you more flexibility in some ways, than a laptop. The biggest problem is the small screen. It's not really designed to be used very far away from your eyes, so if you use an external keyboard you'll probably need to increase the font sizes that you're using.
