Japanese Support
« on: November 10, 2005, 07:14:47 pm »
I recently ordered a c3100 that I am planning on using "mainly" as a Japanese study tool (The dictionaries that are included with it are great, and the Japanese Handwriting recognition is a MUST.  Additionally, I am planning on writing a really good "flash card" tool).

I am wondering whether or not I would be able to keep those things if I go ahead and flash to the pdaXrom ROM?  If I did flash to that, would I be able to reinstall the Japanese handwriting support and the dictionaries/dictionary viewer (I am assuming they are on the included Sharp CDs?

Thanks for any help you can provide!

As far as I know there is no handwritting recognition software for Japanese on pdaxrom.  And there is no official support for Japanese input, though some input methods like uim could work on RC12 (at least uim does work on RC10.)  Of course some configuration will be involved, instruction of which you may only find in Japanese sites.

good luck,

i'm going to be getting a 3100 in the next month or so for the same purpose. i will look into dual-booting which would probably be the best bet. i'll let you know what i come up with when i figure it out

You can stick with the Sharp ROM and have the Japanese support and add X/Qt which allows you to run some of the pdaXrom X applications so you do not have to dual boot.
