« on: November 03, 2005, 07:58:16 pm »
A random thought.  Is it possable to use 2 CF cards with the 5/6/7/8 series zauruses?  I know physicaly no but would a splitter cable work or somthing like the ipaq 2CF + battery sleeve be possable ?

It is possible with certain models.

1)  The 6000 series (rare) has an expansion sled (even more rare).  If you can find this, you get 2 free CF slots.

2)  The SL-3000/3100 have 2 CF slots.  One is completely internal and is used for the microdrive, but I've heard it's possible to replace it with something else if you open up the device.

3)  The SL-1000 is based on the same design as the 3000/31000, but doesn't have the internal connector.  It may be possible to solder one in however.  Not a project for someone without a lot of electronics experience.

I think with any other model you are completely out of luck.  I've certainly never heard of a splitter or anything like that.

If whatever you need the CF slots for can be provided by USB devices instead then that's a much easier way to go.  Just get a 6000/1000/3000/3100 and a USB hub and connect as many things as you want.

with the c3k/c3100 you can cut the side of the case and put a tab on the microdrive to make it like a normal CF card, just dont do it with the hard drvie mounted

dont thinks anyone has worked out the hack yet to do dual CF in a c1k

If all you need is to use the second CF card as a memory device, then you can plug in a USB card reader and put the CF card into that - I've done this before and had two cards mounted.

- Personal preference, to be sure, I'm just not hot on having stuff sticking out of my Z too very far.  I accept that WiFi and BT will project a little, but a USB dongle hangin' off the back of the unit, while I'm trying to use it, isn't an acceptable situation, imho.
- I'd love to get that extra CF slot, but then I guess I should have just bought one of the 3000 series models, eh?  (wink)  Still, I keeps my fingers crossed, I duz...
