Feedback / Bug Reports On New Images
« on: November 25, 2005, 02:43:09 am »
I recently tried different new images, the test-images from fredyd, and today one from florian boor he posted about on the mailing-list.

if someone is interested - i'm just uploading a new GPE/Familiar based image for
the Simpad SL4 to this location:
http://handhelds.org/~florian/simpad/gpe-i...10.rootfs.jffs2

After Koen added the APM fix for the Xserver suspend is working properly.
Wireless netwoking (using the orinoco_cs driver) works.
The image includes latest GPE bits which are close to the 2.7 release as well as
 gaim and Sylpheed.

Is there any point to give feedback about these images?
eg. bugs i notice?

Is there a bug tracker or something one should use, or should i post here?

Most things will be about GPE or OPIE, so should i use these forums?

to clarify, for example here is what i found about florians image:

calibrate:
the crosshairs drawing deletes itselfes when they move from bottom right to left.

German Desktop:
in german, the folder "Utilities" is called "Einstellungen", should maybe be "Utilities, same as in english.

the app launcher in the menubar is missing, if i try to add it, it appears for less than one second, and disappears
(if i log in english, i have to add the launcher, and then it works)

Suspend:
the suspend button can wake the pad up, but not suspend it.

Suspend2:
"suspend" from the app launcher won't work (only if logged in with german)

ps: i have seen the handhelds.org bugzilla, but i think ppl like me better don't use it?

The suspend button is known to not work under Opie, and this is probably easy to fix (but I don't have time for this yet). Should work under GPE, though.

User interface issues (in Opie or GPE) are probably cross-platform and should be reported to the respective projects:
http://opie-bugs.oszine.de/ (Opie)
http://handhelds.org/~bugzilla/ (GPE)

no suspend under gpe, your newest image. so it is something else...
maybe a hw problem, unereased/defect flash... (is there a tool to test that? bootldr command? JTAG maybe? i have the port)
that could explain a lot, because i always had strange irregularities, back since the first 0.8.1 images, like problems after the first flashing, resolved after a 2nd try etc.

ok, to report the translation bug i go to bugzilla, reprt bug, i get an enormous list of "products". i have no clue if it is it gpe-dm gpe-conf-de... i am on an alien planet there...
i opened an account, and had a look at it, but i think that is really not the tool for me.

i think, i should be able to post the problem somewhere, and then someone who knows the system decides wether i am a damn fool, or if it is sth. to look into.
i hope you understand my point?

also, to clarify my first posts question,
your images, you write are test images, is this meant like betatesting, so u want me as user to test it, and maybe report something?

if there is any point to it, would be happy to do something like that, but for now, i am completely standing in the dark...
i miss a notification about new images, maybe what is new on them, etc.

see, i am not demanding something, i just try to ask, if my limited time/knowledge could be of any help.
but even the answers seem to presume more background knowledge than i have.
hope someone gets my point

In the latest images, the buttons work correctly under Opie.
The next set of images (which will be on monday on http://devernay.free.fr/hacks/opensimpad ) will also have an apm patch to fix the shutdown problem (where the simpad goes to sleep before shutting down).
