Can't Install Ipktools And Zbedic / Questions

Hello

I hope that complete beginners are not banned! I must say that I'm very careful doing my first steps in the OE world. I'm not a developper but find the topic very attractive. The zaurus is also a great tool for me living in Taiwan, with connection to Japan (I work wood with Japanese tools)

Got my C3000 second hand.

I've downloaded the chinese english dictionary from
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.p...ackage_id=47925
then from my PC to /home/zaurus/Documents/Install_Files on my zaurus.

I've tried 2 things:

* Add/remove software in "Settings" menu, then click on install. There I have the list of the different packages, some with a "blue dot" on there left, some with a red gift package. The name "zbedic_0.9.6-0_arm.ipk" appeared but with the big blue dot on its left. When I click on the name nothing will happen.

* the ipkg command. I didn't know whether the ipktools were installed so I went to the Qconsol, moved to the correct directory and then typed:
ipkg install zbedic_0.9.6-0_arm.ipk (the name of the package)
The message was: mkdir: Cannot create directory '//home/tmp/ipkg/zbedic' permission denied...

It is obviously a simple issue. But I couldn't find the solution.

Also, I've downloaded the ipktool package from meanie's site, but couldn't unzip it on my PC. Can we unzip from the console on the zaurus?

Also how can you define X/Qt, how does it relates to Qtopia?

Sorry for this post, it is my first one. When you work on radiofrequencies, and land in the linux and the open source world, there is so much to discover that... I got lost. I think I need a kick to get started with going deeper into the zaurus. I've done some homework and have currently 17 tabs opened in mozilla, all related to the zaurus.
But I didn't find precise answers or solution.

i think...with a blue circle at the left of your package in the gui install apps means that you've have it installed before

Thanks! yes indeed it was installed by the previous owner and I didn't noticed it. And I couldn't find neither the corresponding package thus tried to install it once more.

How about ipktools?

Can we unzip it directly on the zaurus? Why is it said to be corrupted on my PC (win XP)?

are you refering to the one on meanie's website?
if so, i can tell you that i can install it without any problem...
the file is probaby really corrupted

Yes I did download the one from meanie's web site and when double clicking on it I get a " The compressed (zipped) folder is invalid or corrupted" window poping up.
How did you unzip it? Can you unzip directly on the zaurus?
