Pdair Case Questions.
« on: December 25, 2005, 08:19:59 pm »
Hey i just ordered a 3100 and have been looking at cases... So far the pdair one seems popular, and made for the zaurus... Ok now i have a few questions about it:

1) How does this case clip onto the zaurus? (there seems to be some sort of clip mechanism)

2) Has anyone noticed the case actully promoting wear/scratching the zaurus after time? from like wear and tear? (also including the clip mechanism scratching the zaurus)

3) Do you mostly use the case to transport the zaurus, or you also use the zaurus in the case?

1. It uses a hole in the back of the Zaurus ( the case has a small plastic pin which goes into the hole ) and a a plastic clamp holding to the opening on the side of the Z.
On the other end of the Z it is held in place with a strong (plastic?) piece - covered by leather.

2. No wear and tear at all.

3. I use it both on and off ( you need to take the Z out to press reset or to remove the battery. So when I experiment with flashing it is off.) I also use a SECOND (larger case) - as the PDair case leaves the sides of the Z exposed. It covers primarily on the top and bottom....

pdair cases are pretty well made.

the thing I find irritating about them is the closure strap/clip is attached underneath, so that when using the zaurus, the strap dangles in the way (at least it does on my 860).

if the strap were on top, it'd be out of the way.

I'd have to go check the 1000/3000/3100 case, unused in a drawer which I bought by mistake (but since I want to upgrade have hung on to), to be certain it's the same

i agree with you. The strap is awfully annoying. But if it were on top, the little ring that closes the case with the magnet on the strap would be annoying also as it would make a small bump under the Z...

well i find the PDAir case is a really good one. It makes me feel good when carrying my Z around.

The piel frama case has the strap on the top and the clasp on the bottom.  The clasp on the bottom does not bother me at all.
I'm now an iphone user and use my zaurii as serial terminals, perl and shell scripting and when I need 640x480 screens

It's the same for the C1000/3000/3100 case
