New Ebay Scam
« on: February 24, 2006, 05:38:50 pm »
Just done a search on eBay and came back with a list. I right clicked and opened in new tab on an item and got the eBay login screen. On closer inspection it is an actual auction listing that looks like an eBay login screen. You only notice this if you scroll down and get the postage details and stuff. The listing only lasted about 5 mintues before it was an invalid item but it is a damn good way of getting your details from you.

I saved the listing but don't want to post it here because soemone may enter their details and I am pretty sure it will forward them if you log into it.

I am not good at HTML and the page is huge but if anyone wants to take a look and tell me if it is as I think then it would be interesting.

I can attach it if a mod reckons it's safe to do so or I will PM it if someone wants it.

Wow, thanks for posting this.  I remember something like this happened to
me a few weeks ago, and I just changed my ebay password.  I forgot all about
it until I read this post.

I wonder if ebay knows about this...

I just sent ebay a message about this.  I could not use their fraudulent
listing form, since it validates the listing number, which of course is
useless if the listing is a short-lived one like you stated.

I pointed ebay to this forum. and I suspect they will want a copy of the
page!

Whew,  John

I am not sure how diligent ebay is about rooting out  scams that are going on around ebay and paypal.  I have forwarded to them multiple instances of suspect mail, behaivor and listings (to spoof@ebay.com) and my impression is that all they do is nothing more than to qualify for safe harbor so that they would not to be responsible for scams.  I understand that it would be extremely costly to pursue in a serious manner all the scams that are there.
