Av700 Freezing Problem
« on: April 14, 2006, 03:20:34 pm »
Please please help me! Had the av700 for 8 months, fantastic, no issues and love it. However just today I have had a BIG problem. Basically when trying to record from dvd or tv through docking station, after 6-9 minutes the unit freezes up and when i disconnect from the docking station it just switches off and does not store any media. Anyone had a similar problem or can suggest a solution?? Tried taking battery out, and downloaded the up to date firmware, but this has not helped at all.

Hi wapyaly,

Had happened to me too, what i did and which seems to work, switch between drive mode.

For example, if you're using windows mode, swith to hard drive and then back again to windows. Vice Versa.

Av700 Freezing Problem

Happen to my Av500 2 !

I think the problem is the Archos OS. It's not enough power to handle the converting process which need lots of resource.

My experience :

Recording with the standard resolution, dont change the resolution to 680 x 480

When recording with Archos Av500/700 , just press Record button(o) 1 time then Stop (x) button 1 time. Hit any button during the recording process can cause whole system hang.

Hope this help

Hi minhtv74,

Archos do have problems with the OS but they are minors really. i own the AV 500 and whenever the hanging problems starts during recording, i'll just switch the drive mode to and forth and it seems to work, cheers!

Thanks for all your help, I reset the bitrate low and the sampling down as well and all seems OK now

No guys it's started playing up again, won't let me change the resolution in contextual setting or let me reset them. I think I'm gonna take it back to the shop. Worked for 1 hour then started freeaing up after 50 minutes and then 10 minutes....aaaahhhhh

I have another question, up to now I have been saving DVDs direct to the Archos from my DVD player in real time, this obviously is taking up more space than we need to as we havent looked into ripping and compressing software, is this easy to use?
By how much does it compress a average DVD?
Cheers guys
