Yeah, run Beta1. I have run Beta2 and am now on Beta3, and I can tell you that there is no benefit and only headaches going past Beta1 right now. Remember, when it comes to Beta software, the latest is not always the greatest.

I have also run Beta4, and while it ranks high for "cool" factor, it makes Beta1 look like a finished product.

Run Beta1 and be happy!  Something new will come in a few months I'm sure.

I put beta1 on my z as soon as I posted the question, I have always liked being a lay pioneer (willing lamb to the slaughter more like!) , so I did go along with Sashz's invitation to try beta4.  We have always had a very high level of usability from Laze and Sashz, so it usually makes sense to go with the flow.

So now I am rebuilding my installation (I hardly ever back up my z).

I like XFCE as my desktop and think it is a good compromise between usability and use of resources.

I tried the Cacko rom for an hour or so and found it reasonably polished and nippy.
As usual I found myself coming straight back to pdaXrom for its geniune desktop look and usability.
