Why i cant do anything on this damn thing?
« on: February 27, 2004, 06:03:36 am »
I bought a 5600 after ppc i got.Im noob on linux, know only some basics. Now i need your knowledges, i bought a cf gps card that need to edit some files....
I open the dir, found the file i want to edit  with afexplorer(very strange the way it works,is not copy-paste on i think).Try to edit the file.Cant edit.
Take text editor (zeditor) found the file, open it, edit it and NOT save it cause it give me an error message.I thought is the permissions.Go at set permissions on afexplorer set 777 , take message \"cant change wrong user bla bla ...\"
After this i had to paste a -new driver for pcmcia-file.I copy it on documents from my %M box open afexplorer, copy it and cant paste it anywhere. Two different mistakes, probs. a) It dont paste it (just dont have paste button)  Take cant paste error if i use hardware copy paste buttons.
Except this solution it was another available by adding a patch on kernel(kernel is the route files? :? )But didnt try anything yet.

I think there is some thinks im missing on messing with Zaurus.Must i go back to ppc?Just need to make it read/write Greek and have a working GPS.

Thanks

ohh that is freakin easy

the icon you want to use as a super user in application.....lets say tkc explorer....hold down icon and then it gives you options to run as root....after that you can edit in root and dont have to do anything else.

You need \'root\' user access (admin access) to edit those files. Hold down your stylus on the zeditor icon until a window appears. In this window tick \'Execute with root priviledge\' and then tap OK. This will then let you edit any file with zeditor, so be careful.

For a full file browser I prefer AdvancedFM, but again you need root access to modiy files in certain directories:

Hey you where right!  I did that and edit anything i want. The instruction for making gps working says after editing to do that:      \"Run the following commands, to give the file the right permissions:
chown root:root serial_cs.o
chmod 775 serial_cs.o\"
I did that but i take the message \"operation not permitted\"
and after that i have to load something onto memory like this: \"modprobe serial_cs\" and i take this \"
but i take a bunch of lines with operation failed message.
Its like to be to the well and cant drink water!

when you run those commands in the console/terminal you want to make sure you type in su (changes user to root) and then run those commands.

I take it you issued those ch commands from bash promt.
From bash type \"su\" to become root, then try the ch commands again.

Try \'cd\'ing to the directory which contains the module then run:

insmod serial_cs.o

(as root as ever).

finally i took a message whicg  says bla bla bla this module is written for .... kernel and you got 2.4.18 something else(different kernel). After that i try Tkrom which says that they fix serial_cs bug, but with no luck :(All the instructions i followed was for sl5500 3,10 rom cause there is no instruction for 5600).I dont know what to do i think my gps card is uselless now.
