Which Mplayer?
« on: June 15, 2006, 10:16:00 am »
Hiya I am reinstalling my zaurus C3100 on cacko lite and I want to know which mplayer to install for best performance and where from?

So far I have seen:
mplayer-bvdd
mplayer-iwmmx
mplayer-w100
mplayer-bvdd-iwmmx

So which one for best codec support and performance?  As far as I know I have mplayer-iwmmx installed but it seems to be different to the last one I had on my last install, as it wont play direct dumps from my tivo (mpeg @1mbit, used to play full speed when overclocked to 'turbo' mode before)

Any tips for squeezing the most performance and which mplayer to get greatly recieved.

I downloaded and installed "mplayer-bvdd-iwmmx" earlier.
I was using "mplayer-bvdd" previously.
What is the difference between "mplayer-bvdd-iwmmx" and "mplayer-bvdd"?

It still won't play my 15 sec clip without stuttering, or lagging behind.
This is a video captured from a golf game.
Below is the "info" on the clip in kino2

Video
Size: 640x480
Codec: Xvid
Bitrate: 1232248
FPS 30

Audio
Codec: mad
Rate: 44100
Bitrate: 128000
Channels: 2

It's encoded with mp3, but kino always reports "mad"

OK the bvdd-iwmmx whatever file works for me thanks for the help.

Ref the last reply, the iwmmx whatever file uses your zaurus accelerated graphics chip or something - I get better performance here with it.

On performance, try lowering that bitrate to under 1mbit/sec - zaurus seems to have issues over that rate, alternativy in the playback try enabling overclocking* I find the top turbo one will hang my zaurus, but the top 'overclocked' setting yields better performance than the lower turbo setting, I presume that the limitation on high bitrate videos is buss bandwidth or something perhaps someone will clarify.

*DONT BLAME ME IF YOUR ZAURUS CRASHES AND BURNS INTO A PILE OF MOLTEN PLASTIC I have however never had any adverse effects from overclocking my zaurus.

So do you have to install the bvdd driver? or is there a bvdd-iwmmx? or is it only mplayer that has to have the iwmmx?

I had installed the following version of mplayer:   "mplayer-bvdd-iwmmxt_1.1.5-1_arm.ipk".

What command do I have to type in  to watch movies with 640x480 [fullscreen - landscape].
Everytime when i type in "mplayer <path to movie>" i got a small window in portrait mode.

The movie has the 640x480 format.

Thanks

Try adding "-vm -fs" to your command (in front of the filename).
