Changing/setting timezones....?
« on: March 28, 2004, 08:03:13 am »
As BST (British Summer Time) started last night (daylight savings I suppose the rest of you call it ;-)), I was a little surprised that my Z wasn\'t showing the newly adjusted time.

I did some digging and it\'s part of glibc and I need the timezone files in /usr/share/timezones (is there an s on the end? not sure) and need to make a link to /etc/localtime or something like that.

Anyway has anyone else thought about this little problem? I suppose I could just change the hardware clock, but I fear that doing this will probably confuse ko/pi (and any other apps which presume the Linux method of running the hardware clock on GMT (UTC)).

I had a quick google for zic which is the timezone compiler and I think this installs the timezone files, but I\'m not sure (and I couldn\'t find the source either).

Anyway, to get to the point finally ;-), can I just grab the timezones files from my desktop box (or is there more to the process that I\'ve missed)?

BTW these might be good things to have installed with the ROM by default.

Cheers,

Simon

To answer my own question, yes copying the file(s) across works.

I just copied the /etc/localtime file from my Mandrake box and stuck it on my 750 and it now (appears to) know the correct time.

Works copying it from Gentoo too.
