Qs About Zaurus Use
« on: September 04, 2006, 12:17:50 pm »
I am a Linux novice and am contemplating purchase of a Zaurus.

Does anyone know if there is a software app for aiding study, like a flash card system, or a quiz where a quiz file can be imported and your knowledge tested.

Is it generally possible for apps for Linux desktops to be re-compiled for the zaurus, I'm thinking the only spanner in the works would be the the VGA screen. Am i right in thinking that if it works in VGA on the desktop it will work on the Zaurus.

The Zaurus screen from what i read is respected as probably the best of all pdas, does anyone therefore use it for developement work when on the road?

Thanks for your patience

I do, but only in terms of BASIC. And HTML.

Things are rarely guaranteed to "Recompile", and if they did, they'd only work on similar operating systems.

For example, A VGA res MSN program (hypothetical) may very well recompile from your KDE desktop to your Zaurus, but it won't run without the required OS features. E.G. X desktop, QT. . You could have it on PDAXROM or OZ/GPE but not on a Qtopia based rom such as Sharp Default, Cacko, or OZ/OPIE. The X desktop is a completely different GUI system to Qtopia after all.
Cortana: PXA250/Poodle: OZ/GPE 3.4.2RC1
Tycho PXA270/HTC_Universal WM5  .30.107/1.09.00/42.42.P8/1.30.162
HollyWatch: Fossil AU5005 - POS 4.1.2
ATLANTIS: Fujitsu Lifebook T4210 TBPC2005

guscpu,
theKompany.com has an application called tkcSOQ that seems to be what you are looking for.  It is a commercial app that costs $9.95.

"Test yourself, test others, study for exams, even learn new languages. tkcSOQ (Series Of Questions) is a test study application that is designed to help you learn new information and to help it stick. Because of the flexible nature of tkcSOQ you'll be able to create any type of test with any type of information you can imagine."

Yep thats just the ticket, pity they don't post more photos of their other products like the address book which you can't get an idea of what you are getting visually. But thanks for that anyway
