Do you know of linux (Unix?) at all?
A ROM is really an OS ... is \"sharp speak\"
An OS, as you now know due to MS, is not just what it takes to make a machine
work, but (now) also includes every bundled application a company (or individual)
wishes to \"innovate\" with and tie to the OS.
For Linux and the Zaurus, most ROM (ie: OSes) will have a kernel. That\'s linux.
The rest of the apps are included in the \"OS\" ... but are probably a combination
of GNU and other apps.
For instance, the stock sharp rom has \"netfront\" (on some devices) ...
the latest cacko qt rom has both netfront *and* opera 7.30.
Basically, differen\'t ROMs (ie: OSes) ... have a different combination of
features and applications. If a ROM is said to be \"sharp compatible\"
it usually means that old[er] progarms that can be found on the net
can be run... also, newer programs that were developed on and for
the sharp roms... may run on the compatible rom. For instance,
gcc2 vs gcc3 (with libs, dependncies, etc).
For the 5600, I think you have sharp, OZ, zynergy and possibly TKC
(although I\'m not sure about the TKC). I have used sharp, OZ
and cacko qt / cacko x11 / cacko pdaxrom ... each has advantages
and disadvantages -- depending on what you want to do with
your Zaurus.
