Found a fix. The crash when trying to set the time apparently is caused by something called "atd" running so BEFORE trying to change the time put the following command in the console:
/etc/rc.d/init.d/atd stop
Then after you have set the time, restart "atd" by putting the following command in at the console:
/etc/rc.d/init.d/atd start
Meanie, I'm too afraid to try pdaXii13 after those dire warnings on the page you referred me to. I'm already having serious problems with the on/off button and suspending without total crashes...it's worse than Windows! PdaXrom IS pretty though.
I really use Corsair and Shoutcast an awful lot and will probably flash back to Cacko Rom because of those apps. Also, the fonts are WAY too tiny. I am also having a great deal of trouble reading emails in the email utility...the emails hotlinks have to be right-clicked to open a browser and I sure miss Opera.
It would be helpful if kdepim was capable of importing its own darn files. I know, complain, complain. ;-)
This was a problem in 2004 posts on this forum...nobody has fixed this???
I'm really beginning to despair.
IS there a fix? Did a search for hwclock and found some really LONG and involved procedures but is there a new quick fix?
Thanks in advance.

maybe you should try pdaXii13 instead. its basically pdaXrom 1.1.0 beta3 + lots of bugs fixed, including setting time and many other things...
