How To Fax With Z?
« on: June 17, 2005, 04:13:10 am »
Hi there,

I wonder if someone could tell me how viable it is to send/receive fax with Z:

Software:
So far it seems the most functional combo is efax (console) + zfax (frontend).
Any other recommendations?

Hardware:
1) CF modem
2) CF wifi
3) CF GPRS
4) CF blutooth + mobile phone
Which one will actually work?

Sorry that I've got only the bluetooth card and have yet to figure out the settings for fax.  Thanks in advance!

I have managed to build mgetty+sendfax, but have yet to get it to work, because, I think, my SIM isn't fully data/fax enabled.

I have an audiovox RTM-8000 card BTW, with SIM from Virgin Mobile in UK.

I'll also be giving it a go with my Nokia 6310i using bluetooth connection.

Let me know if you want to try it out and I'll see about creating an .ipkg

To speculatrix:  Thanks for your kind help!  I would like to try out your craft.  But I can only use my Anycom bluetooth card with my subscribed GPRS service.  Not sure if this will do.
And do you mean efax & zfax are not really up to the job?

To Trisoft:  Thanks!  Actually I have visited that page, but documentation there remains slim.  More would be nice.

Maybe more people have figured out how to do it now?
I found quite a few threads here saying people finally got efax or zfax to work on their z's but nobody gave the details.

I read the manual for efax:

  [a href=\"http://www.cce.com/efax/documentation/efax.txt]http://www.cce.com/efax/documentation/efax.txt[/url]

And I have installed and played around with silvio's port of zfax:

http://www.iaccarino.de/silvio/zfax.htm

But I still feel pretty clueless.  Can someone walk me through exactly what to do to send a fax?  Which icons do I tap in what order?

zfax either does not seem to be sending any signals to my modem, and playing around with it has resulted in lots of crashes on my sl5500.

Thanks,

I made progress.  It wasn't at all clear to me you have to install 2 ipks, both zfax and efax.

So, zfax has now tried sending faxes via my modem, but I have to call the people at the 2 numbers I tried sending to tomorrow to see if the problems I had were at my end or theirs...one was no answer...the other looked like:
efax: 56:57 Warning: frame error
efax: 56:57 received 0 bytes:
efax: 56:57 received DIS - answering capabilities
efax: 56:57 Error: no command/response from remote

To be continued...any hints will still be appreciated.
