Hi,
You are leaving the Zaurus world, while I am thinking of joining it.
I am mulling over buying a C1000.
I would not really be using it for images or music so storage space should be okay and was thinking that without a hard drive it may give more reliable. Is this a reasonable assumption?
I was budgeting for about 150 pounds/ 220 euros for the C1000. I don't know what accessories from your list would be good for someone starting, the wireless card is the only thing that really stand out to me. Can you suggest a package of your accessories including a C1000 and a price for postage to the UK please?
Best wishes,
Douglas
Of the accessories, I suggest:
* extra battery is a REALLY GOOD THING, assuming it still has some reasonable capacity left.
* remote control really not all that useful if you're not using it as a media player
* WiFi - as you guessed, essential
* BlueTooth - if you have other BT devices, otherwise probably not very useful
* Ethernet CF - really only useful if you are in a place without WiFi, or with poor reception. Also WiFi (sometimes) has a tendency to drop the connection, so Ethernet is a nice and stable Networking option.
* Optical Mini Mouse - probably not too many times you'll need it. Its helpful for games, and essential if you're using an external USB keyboard
* Dock Station - yow. I want one
it extends the battery, provides networking, and two additional USB ports,
but intended for when you're sitting down and using the Zaurus from one location.
I'm not sure how big, or how heavy it is.
The C3100 with HDD replaced, should be every bit as stable as a C1000, since there are no moving parts (the replacement drive is Flash ram) - modulo the fact that an end-user has actually opened it up and fiddled with the innards. I think the "end-user opening and fiddling" is about balanced with ztep's evident skill and care, in this case.
Your Mileage (and your Kilometrage) May Vary
