That is a good explanation why there is so much hype around the iPhone although there are devices with better screen resolution, others already having multi-touch and screen only operation, and better radio interface (UMTS) - and finally cheaper ones.
And OSX on a handheld device is no magic. We have OpenBSD for the Zaurus and GNUstep/mySTEP being a compatible GUI toolkit...
