Opera 6 bug?
« on: March 14, 2004, 01:55:43 am »
I have an SL5500 with Sharp ROM v3.xx.  Included with it, of course, is Opera 6.

I use Opera frequently to browse and read HTML documents stored on my CF card.  For example, I use Opera as a POD reader for .html versions of the Perl \"Plain Old Documentation\".

I have also installed the contents of the Perl CD Bookshelf on my Z (the Perl CD Bookshelf is in HTML format).  I\'ve had a problem with this though.  I am able to sometimes read the HTML documents from the Perl CD Bookshelf (O\'Reilly), and other times, when I attempt to access one of the numerous documents comprising that distribution Opera fails to load the page, and actually terminates without warning.

Has anyone else found that some HTML documents cause Opera to just quit?  Is there a workaround, is there a newer version of Opera available for the SL5500?  It\'s a perplexing problem; using the Z as a handheld reference is one of my primary uses.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions...  I did search on the topic but just couldn\'t turn anything up where others mention similar problems.

You can user Just Reader application to read HTML (and some other) documents:  http://justreader.sf.net.

Also you can find Opera 7 ipk on the net.

You might try starting opera from the command line (or start syslog if you can\'t be bothered to do this each time) and then see what it says if/when Opera falls over.

Opera does this to me once in a while, but
very seldomly (once a week?).
Does Opera7 have a big footprint due to
the voice stuff IBM did, or are these two
seperate versions?

I found that JustRead has problems displaying \" \" like characters, does it support HTML escape characters?
