2nd post. Hello all!

Looking to upgrade from a Clie TH55. Need a decent browser and keyboard and the Zaurus clamshells fit the bill!

Been doing a LOT of reading, and have settled on getting hold of the following:

A Zaurus C3200 or a C3100
A fast CF card to replace the internal microdrive
A Zonet ZCF1100 CF wifi card, or another compatible CF wifi card that doesn't stick out much

Critical item is the wifi card, I can get the rest easily enough.

I'm in the UK, and can pay via PayPal. Willing to cover fees and shipping from anywhere in the world! eBay user ID for feedback is hordarian

Also interested in bundles of the above, if you've got them!

someone posted in this forum somewhere that the new laws restricting hazardous substances, which came into force in Europe, and have been in force in China for a while, meant that many low-selling products were dropped from the market as it would have been too expensive to have to dump stock AND re-design/manufacture new ones (higher temperatures  when using new solders damage components not designed for them).

however, these cards sometimes turn up on ebay so if you do a search for this on ebay (brackets mean logical or) and save it with email notifications, something might turn up.

Finally got a Zaurus 3200 for a decent price, hopefully it'll turn up tomorrow. High hopes for it

p.s. the socket/symbol cards work quite well, good for low power, but AFAIK you can't do WPA with them, the prism-based cards allow you to use hostap drivers and thus use wpa_supplicant which does lots of clever stuff!

p.s. you could also get a bluetooth card, bluetooth PAN (personal area networking) is pretty effective, although the speed isn't that high, I've found that it's good enough, and it's more power efficient than wifi. the socket/symbol card is especially nice as it doesn't stick out of the CF slot at all!

Bluetooth is always an idea, as I (a) don't pay for mobile use and ( we're on an unlimited data plan.

However, I rarely use the internet when I'm out and about. Nearly always when within reach of my home wifi (free for all ), with the occasional use in a hotel.

Previously this would have been with my laptop (IBM X40), with either the built in wireless NIC, or by plugging the phone in as a virtual ethernet adapter. The latter should be do-able on any newish kernel but the former is what I'm hoping to replace. Been carrying around a Clie for the past few years in my jeans pocket - a stick out wifi adapter is guaranteed to get damaged

I'll keep my eyes peeled for one of the Zonet cards, going to have enough on my hands installing Debian armel as it is!
