A Few Beginner Questions
« on: October 10, 2008, 03:48:29 am »
Hello.

I recently bought a Zaurus 3200 from online auction site.

It came with preinstalled angstorm. I found that OS slow, useless and annonying.
So I wanted to install cacko.
After flashing I get "HDD2 ERROR" but I figured that out - I needed to create partitions. I am not familiar with linux utilities at all I tried to input some values into fdisk but that came up with 4 GB user partition while I should have 6 GB disk in c3200 (or the seller cheated on me and glued a "6GB" sticker to my Zaurus). Now it displays "Error!! HDD is not initialized!". Pressing ctrl + c solves that and the system booting goes on.
Bedsides that.
I used 2 GB Itegral SD to install Cacko, but Cacko doesn't see my SD card.
The "music player" reads mp3 tags wrongly. All I see are bunch of rectangles with single letters at end. Also the music player is ordering files backwards (starting from ex. track 45 down to  1, very annoying when you have an audiobook). It also have a default directory where I MUST put my files for it to see them. So I have to copy them 2 times, once via USB to integral disk (hdd3/Documents), then to /home/zaurus/Documents/Music_Files ... Another thing with music players is it takes a nap when file ends and plays next file after 2-3 seconds.
The video players doesn't see some of video files I try to play. Or just ignores the rest and doesn't do anything after i press "play" button.
USP "PC link" doesn't work. Or I have no idea what it does.
After I try to set system time to 2008 (from 1970.01.01) the zaurus hangs and I have to pull the battery. And the system time resets again.

I have some usb sticks I would like to use with my zaurus. None of them works.
•bluetooth
•sdhc reader
•mouse
•keyboard (but it is a logitech G15 and uses a lot of energy0
•headphones with microphone (CMedia chip based)

tl;dr
To make a summary.
•I have a 4GB partition instead of 6GB and "Error!! HDD is not initialized!". How do I fix it?
•Music player have issues and I need a replacement. (for ex. a one when I can use PIM while the music is playing). Where I can get one?
•Video players doesn't play videos. Which codes, bitrate, resolution I should use?
•USB "PC link" doesn't work. Where can I get drivers?
•USB sticks doesn't work with Zaurus. Where can I get drivers and how I can install them?

Cheers ;]

I think most of your problems will be solved by googling for trisoft.de.  You then need to look at the information on that site for the 3200. In particular the microdrive problem has instructions and files to download.   I also think that you might need to reflash the cacko rom after the microdrive is sorted out.

If you look on the site above I believe that the usb drivers are available and the instructions there are comprehensive.

Most of your problems should disappear if you follow those instructions.    Cacko needs an ipk to enable large SD cards. It's in the forums....

If you search these forums for kino I think you'll find the answer to your other problems. have fun!

You pointed me to SLC3200SYSPART.zip but in the readme.txt they assume I know how to use the fdisk.
How do I fdisk?
Code: [Select]
SL-C3200 HDD-Partition table:
/dev/hda1  Start 1  End 20  Blocks 10048+  id 83 System Linux
/dev/hda2  Start 21 End 40  Blocks 10080  id 83 System Linux
/dev/hda3  Start 41 End 11905 Blocks 5979960 id c System Win95 FAT32 (LBA)

Note:
While using the fdisk on the Zaurus, double check that you set the
correct parameters for the drive. They have to be:
16 heads / 63 sectors/track / 11905 cylinders
I have no clue what they mean. I don't know where to set this parameters in fdisk.

Also how I can copy this files?
Code: [Select]
/hda1 and /hda2 are 9.5 MB partitions. Each one contains a ".sys" and
a "lost+found" directory. The contents of the .sys-directories are
in this file.

Files in /hdd1/.sys :
hdimage2.tgz  (2149 Bytes, contains japanese web-bookmarks - hurray !)
hdlist1.dat (85 Bytes, no clue what it's good for)

Files in /hdd2/.sys :
contlist.dat (74327 Bytes)
hdlist2.dat (1264 Bytes)
hdlist3.dat (1519 Bytes)
I don't how to acces hdd1/ and hdd2/
I never before have used linux.

Also,
Code: [Select]
$help fdisk
-bash help: no help topics match 'fdisk'. Try 'help help' or 'man -k fdisk' or 'info fdisk'
$man -k fdisk
-bask: man: command not found
$info fdisk
-bash info: command not found

I found this post a forum post by searching the forums for Sharp roms with fdisk as the search text.

It quotes the readme that you are using. It also gives a link to a page that shows how to use fdisk. This should sort you out.

Really the answer to the hard disk problem is in the readme you have downloaded and the post I have linked highlights what you need to do.

Cheers
