Help installing VNC viewer and/or rte on zaurus5500
« on: April 15, 2004, 12:10:07 pm »
I have a sharp zaurus SL5500 and I am trying to install VNC viewer and/or this LabView6.1 runtime engine for Linux.  The VNC viewer file extention is
opie-keypebble_1.0.0_arm.ipk and the run-engine file extention is labview61-rte-6.1-1.i386.rpm.  At first I downloaded the files via wireless connection and I tried to install them using the Bash terminal with bash terminal commands, and a lot of the commands I needed were not in the terminal.  The next thing I tried was downloading it on a PC (with windows XP) then, I hot synced the files to the Zaurus and the “packaged” icons came up, however when I tried to unpack them they would not even open.  If anybody knows what to do could you please help me out ASAP (giving step by step instructions)—it would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

opie-keypebble_1.0.0_arm.ipk is almost certainly an ar type ipk. Your ROM\'s ipkg unly supports tar.gz style ipks. Use ar to extract the 3 files then place them in a tar.gz archive and rename to ipk.

labview61-rte-6.1-1.i386.rpm - this is not an arm package, hence the i386, there may be something for the Z inside the package but you\'ll have to install it on a desktop Linux box.
