package management problems
« on: April 09, 2004, 07:24:12 pm »
i\'m having trouble installing packages.

the package manager frequently chokes and i have to manually go and ipkg status then ipkg remove <packagename> to clear it.  it would be nice if there was some way to clear troubled packages from package manager. (i put in a bug about this)

a different area,  which isn\'t a bug, is that while you can edit ipkg.conf to point at different package locations file:///mnt/card/feed for example, it won\'t display them in package manager due to a lack of the Packages text file which describes the packages.  on the web page, there is a section that says you should be able to just change the .config file, so that should be updated.

hrm, seems like i\'m only finding fault with things here; on the whole i\'m pretty happy with your new rom, it\'s much cleaner than the qtopia for what i want my zaurus to do.  thanks for the hard work, and thanks for listening to us complain here on the boards :)

There\'s a script somewhere which will produce a Packages file for you. Take a look on the handhelds.org website.

BTW I agree with you about ipkg troubles, the version on OZ is much more robust afaict, and it would probably be possible to copy (or install) that one across instead.
