networking questions
« on: May 10, 2004, 08:29:06 pm »
Hi,

I am using pdaxrom with a wlan cf card. I can
do ssh and scp but I cannot use any other stuff
like email and internet. For that I would need
vpn software. There is one which consumes some
3 MB of space, too much for me.  So, I haven\'t tried it. I am wondering if there is a way to
connect to the internet/do email without going
through that route. (From the discussion board
it seemed to me that a few people have
requested something like that but got no
reply. Is no one really missing this? So I
am trying my luck again.)

Also, I am experiencing trouble with my
ppp dial up. I am using a socket cf modem.
I set up the init string to \"AT\". I can
connect and I do get as far as

ppp0 <--> /dev/ttyS3

but after that I cannot reach the network
and get disconnected after time out is reached.
What is the secret?

I also have a pdaXrom networking question

Does pdaXrom block incoming ports?

I\'ve compiled amule, xmule, gtk-gnutella, and mutella.  All of these are p2p filesharing apps and all of these have the same problems with not being able to stay connected very long and unable to search while connected (except for gtk-gnutella, it will not run as root).  I first thought running as root was the problem, but  I can run all of those as root at home without any problems (and without forwarding a ton of ports on my router).
