Importing Contacts from .vcf does not work properly
« on: June 26, 2018, 03:13:03 pm »
I could not get Contacts to download contacts from my G-Mail account, so I had to import my contacts by sending myself an email with a .vcf one for each contact. I opened the e-mails and saved the cards. I can go into the contacts and select a contact. The details all appear, but when I go into the contact to edit them, none of the details appear. Further if I do edit any of the details, the edits don’t appear on the contact “card”, the original data are shown. However if I go back into edit, the edits are there.

I don't use Gmail, so I can't say anything about that.

But I did import a load of .vcf contacts successfully: I exported them from the Contacts app on my Mac (200-odd, all into a single .vsf file), transferred that to my Gemini, opened it form a file manager, and it imported every one of them.  They now appear in the Contacts, Messaging, and Phone apps, and all the details (names, numbers, addresses, notes, photos) seem present and correct, and editing works as expected.

Thanks. I use Outlook for my contacts and sent the e-mail from there and used K-9 to read the e-mails. Wish I had heard about vsf files, although Outlook 2013 doesn’t seem to support them. Bit of a pain that the obvious ways to transfer contacts across don’t work properly.
