Hi,

I've tried using the stock file manager app but all I can see is the SD card I have installed.  Can anyone tell me how to enable access to the main device memory (it already has the storage permission) or recommend a good file manager app that will allow me access to the device memory and the SD card?  Dropbox built in would be a nice bonus.  Don't mind paying if it is worth it.

Thanks.

I use X-plore which seems pretty good and has Dropbox functionality, accessing SD and internal storage but not root unless rooted obviously.

Total Commander is also a good one, and plays nicely with root.

Its plugin--TotalDrip--allows Dropbox access.

But I've always admired X-plore, too. Hard to go wrong here.

The best one I found is FX File Explorer.

But be aware that unless you have root, there are likely to be lots of files you can't see, and more that you can't change.

Thanks for the suggestions.  My Gemini isn't rooted, I was so excited to get it I didn't want to risk doing any harm but installed x-plorer and couldn't access it so will have to get round to it.

What can't you access?  the root file system  or the internal storage?

Looking at the screen the internal storage requires root to access.  I attached a screenshot.

Check permissions as mine can see internal storage with storage permissions on.

It has the storage permission but not the contacts.

Weird, it works fine for me with those same permissions

I'm not rooted either. I use Total Commander, but I also tried the stock file explorer. With both I can see and explore the internal storage and the root (see screenshot of Total Commander with internal storage open)

Soory - I know that's not a lot of help - but it confirms it is not a rooted / non rooted problem...

I converted to Total Commander, and I'm very happy with it.  (I'm not rooted, either)  It has no trouble accessing my external USB stick.

I added in Total-Cmd-FTP as well, which gives me convenient access to all my other machines.

The next two cents: Probably it helps to "allow apps on external" (makes any app eligible to be written to external storage, regardless of manifest value).
Open "Settings", open "Developer options" (if you can't find it open"About phone", tap on "Build number 7 times", go back one time and you should see the additional menu entry), scroll down to the bottom and activate the entry "Force allow apps on external".

Hope that helps, bye for now  Fred
