Printing???
« on: May 05, 2004, 10:44:55 pm »
Is it possible to print via bluetooth or wi-fi to mobile printer? I run my business on a Palm t-3, printing all my tags on an HP450wbt... but I don\'t think a wi-fi SD card will ever work. SanDisk has been promising forever, and still we got nuttin\'! I love Linux, and I think the open source community can rise to meet any challenge, so I find it puzzling that Microsoft offers the only PDA OS that can run Bluetooth and Wi-Fi internally... and still run a print daemon! I\'ll rot in hell B4 I give Microsoft another penny of my hard earned money, so unless I\'m missing something, I\'m stuck with a mostly closed source handheld! What about Java 2 ME support with Printable/Pageable API\'s? What about CUPS or lpd? I\'d buy a Zaurus in a second if it could print!

There are Palm devices that have both.  (for example, Sony UX-50).  The Zaurus SL-6000W (available in Japan) also has both, or you can use a CF bluetooth card.  I don\'t know for sure the answer to your question, but I suspect it\'s possible.  I know cups and lpd have been ported to the Zaurus, so if the printer just talks its normal command language over a bluetooth serial connection, it ought to be pretty easy to configure.  Don\'t know if anyone\'s tried it though.  Printing over wifi should also work if you have a print server on your network somewhere.  You would probably configure it just like on desktop Linux.
